Will Guard is a family-run will writing practice with consultants based across the North of England. From the Cumbrian fells to the Northumberland coast, and from the Wirral peninsula across to Teesside, we provide friendly, fixed-fee will writing, lasting powers of attorney and estate planning to households who would rather sit at their own kitchen table than visit a solicitor's office in town.

We cover two distinct regions. The North East takes in Northumberland, Tyne and Wear, County Durham and Teesside, where we work with everyone from terraced homeowners in Gateshead to retired couples in coastal villages along the Northumberland Heritage Coast. The North West stretches from the Lancashire mill towns through Greater Manchester and Merseyside down to the Cheshire commuter belt, plus the whole of Cumbria and the Lake District. Wherever you live, our consultants travel to you.

Choose your region below to see the towns and cities we cover, or jump straight to your local page for fixed prices, opening hours, local probate registry information and reviews from neighbours who have already used us.

Don't see your town listed above? We cover every postcode in both regions. Call 0330 223 7844 or use our contact form and a local consultant will be in touch within one working day.

Why choose a local will writer?

It is perfectly possible to write a will using an online template or a national service that posts you a draft. Many people do, and for the simplest estates it works well enough. But the reason we have built our practice around home visits, town by town, is that the people we meet almost always tell us the same thing once we have sat down with them: "I had no idea there was so much to think about."

Sitting at your own table, with your own paperwork in front of you, you naturally remember the things that matter — the half-finished extension, the share of a holiday cottage in the family, the grandchild with additional needs, the second marriage, the small business that is more valuable than you let on. A consultant who has driven through your village to get to you, who knows the local area and who is not watching the clock, will catch the things a generic online form will simply miss.

Local also matters when something goes wrong. If your will is challenged, if probate gets complicated, or if you simply want to update things after a house move or a new grandchild, you want to know there is a real person at the end of a phone — not an offshore call centre. Every Will Guard consultant lives within an hour of the towns they cover, which means we can be back at your kitchen table for a review within the week, not the month.
